Kontakion Vesperal Stichera at "Lord, I call..." for Nov. 13 Vesperal Aposticha for Nov. 13 Hymn of Praise (from the Prologue from Ochrid) |
Tone 8
Grace shining forth from your lips like a beacon has enlightened the universe! It has shown to the world the riches of poverty. It has revealed to us the heights of humility. Teaching us by your words, Father John Chrysostom, intercede before the Word, Christ our God, to save our souls!
Tone 6
Having received divine grace from Heaven, you teach all men to adore the one God in three Persons. All-blessed John Chrysostom, we rightly praise you, for you are our teacher, revealing all things divine!
Tone 1
You bore the name of the Baptist, and by your godly life you followed in his path. Father John Chrysostom, our shining light, by fasting and chastity you mastered your body. Zealously you rebuked the tyrant empress, faithful shepherd of Christ's holy Church!
Filled with the Spirit of God the Word, you have enlightened the universe. Your writings and godly teachings have gone out to all the world; you have revealed the way of repentance. You have commanded us to love the poor, if we truly would follow the Gospel of Christ.
The purity of your soul, and its immaculate light were as rays of the sun, O wise Father. Illuminating the world with a rule of piety, they dispelled the darkness and brought the world to the light of true worship.
Glory...
Tone 6
Thrice-blessed holy one, good shepherd, faithful bishop and disciple of Christ, you laid down your life for your flock, and now you are glorified forever. Pray to Him, John Chrysostom, that he may grant us great mercy!
Now and ever...(Theotokion)
Who will not bless you, Most Holy Virgin? Who will not sing of your most pure childbearing? The Only Begotten Son shone timelessly from the father, but from you He was ineffably incarnate! God by nature, yet man for our sake! Not two persons, but one, known in two natures! Entreat Him, pure and all-blessed Lady, that He may have mercy on our souls!
Tone 2
You are revealed, O John, to the ends of the earth, as a golden lyre, a shining lampstand, proclaiming the mighty works of God.
Verse: The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom and his tongue speaks justice!
Moses received the law from the hands of the Lord, and you, Chrysostom, enlighten the world, by the wisdom of your divine teaching.
Verse: Your priests, Lord, shall be clothed with righteousness, and Your saints shall sing for joy!
By your golden tongue, you became the herald of God's true Kingdom, crying out to all: Repent! Forsake the sea of ignorance!
Glory... and Now...(Theotokion)
O Virgin and Theotokos, entreat the Word of God who was born of you that He may save our souls.
Saint John, a trumpet forged of gold,
Heralded to mankind, the mercy of God,
Miraculous mercy, which even loves the sinners,
Wonderful mercy, that shines through the sun,
And with the moon, amazes the earth,
In the cradle of the stars, mercy, he is rocking,
The awesome mercy from bloody Golgatha,
Where God Crucified forgives the crime of the world,
Mercy of fear, forgiveness and glory,
Mercy which the angels sing,
Of which the whole of creation drinks,
Which only the saints glorify,
Mercy which is a balm to the ill,
Joy to the simple, foolishness to the scribes,
Antidote for the proud and a punishment for the vain;
The mercy of God, which all creation enjoys,
Which is poured out like a current of air,
Mercy that covers all sins --
Such mercy -- unknown until Christ,
Eternal glow, from Christ radiated.
O Teacher of God's mercy,
Pray to God that He forgives our sins.
